If you’ve played almost any video game, you know the feeling. Your character takes a hit, the screen fades, and those big words flash: GAME OVER.
For a second, it feels like it really is “game over”. But then you see that glowing button right below it: CONTINUE. You take a breath, hit the button, and jump right back into the action.
That exact scene is hanging on our hallway bulletin board on campus this month. It’s a simple image, but it carries a lesson about one of our pillars here at Hope High School: Resilience.
September is usually when the “new school year” energy starts to settle down and the real work begins. Assignments stack up, schedules get busy, and life outside of school throws a few unexpected obstacles in the way. Suddenly, you hit a moment where you feel like “Game Over” or “Player Down”.
Maybe you missed a few days of school, fell behind on an assignment, or got a grade back that wasn’t what you hoped for. It’s so easy in those moments to throw the controller down and walk away. But here at Hope, our Diamonds don’t give up when things get tough.
Resilience isn’t about playing a flawless game or never taking damage. Resilience is simply choosing to hit CONTINUE.
This month, our pillar board highlights four students who have shown resilience during their time with us in August and early September. Push the button on the board to hear their names! But, every single student on our campus—whether your name is on our board or not—has extra lives built in. You have teachers, staff, and peers right here in your corner, ready to help you level up and keep moving forward. No single bad day or tough week has the power to end your game.
So, if you’re feeling a little drained this month, take a look at the bulletin board on campus, reset, and hit that button.
Game on, Diamonds!
